Confirm the responsible authority before preparing the application

Broward County's Building Code Division describes its construction role in unincorporated areas and contracted cities. A Broward address does not automatically mean the County issues every building permit. Identify the municipality and the authority responsible for the specific work.

Fort Lauderdale maintains its own permitting services. For a Fort Lauderdale project, use the City's guidance rather than assuming a County checklist alone establishes the application requirements.

Plan the power requirements and the existing distribution

Begin with the functions the owner needs supported and identify the equipment involved. New tenants, renovated spaces or additional equipment can change the operating objectives of an existing building. Review those changes before choosing a matching replacement rating or copying another property's generator selection.

Identify the proposed transfer arrangement and the relevant electrical equipment. A generator specification and an ATS specification are related but separate decisions. The quote should state what will be installed, what will be reused and what requires further investigation.

Establish the shutdown and access plan

For an occupied property, identify the service windows the owner can authorize. Ask building staff about deliveries, access control, parking restrictions and the people who must attend testing. A condominium board or property manager may need a written scope that separates construction activity from ongoing building operations.

Where elevator-company attendance is part of the agreed transfer test, assign that coordination explicitly. Fuel systems and equipment support

Diesel, natural-gas and LP generator options are available for evaluation. Identify fuel requirements, storage or supply conditions, equipment access and associated installation work early. The presence of a gas meter or an existing tank does not finish the review.

Pads, slabs, enclosures and exhaust work belong in the construction estimate when included. The proposed layout should be reviewed for the actual property's conditions, including required approvals, rather than marketed as a standard installation suitable for every address.
